“High wellbeing means high attainment.”
Anna Oldfield, UK Children’s Commissioner, 2017
PSHE sits at the heart of our school values: Ambition, Resilience and Respect underpin everything we do. Its importance is widely recognised by Ofsted, the government and leading NGOs, and it forms a key part of pastoral guidance across the school.
Through PSHE, students develop the knowledge and skills to manage risk, navigate challenging situations and make informed decisions. They are encouraged to reflect on their own moral beliefs and values, understand the law, and recognise the impact of harmful behaviours—both on themselves and others. Alongside this, students gain essential preparation for life beyond school through lessons on careers, financial education and citizenship. We ensure they know where to seek advice and support, helping to break down stigmas and create open, age-appropriate conversations about important issues.
Our lessons are primarily discussion-based, promoting active engagement and reinforcing our core values. We also welcome a wide range of outside speakers and agencies, drawing on professionals from across Jersey to enrich students’ learning. Our curriculum is continually reviewed to address the most relevant and pressing issues facing our young people, delivered in a preventative, positive and supportive way.
