House System
At Les Quennevais School we are proud of our flourishing House System. There are three Houses at Les Quennevais and each form belongs to a different House. Each House has a member of SLT as its Head who are supported by a team of student leader representatives. There are two House Captains and two Sports Captains. Students undergo a rigorous interview process with the Senior Leadership Team. After a successful application to be a prefect, students have the opportunity to then apply to lead their house.
Each House is named after a past Headteacher and is led by a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
McKeon - Mrs K Le Marquand
Tranter - Mrs P Goodchild
Watts - Mr C Jones
Each house meets together weekly in House Assemblies and each Tutor groups letter corresponds to a House, as follows.
McKeon (S,V,T) - Tuesday
Tranter (E,N,C) - Wednesday
Watts (L,Q,Y) – Thursday
House and Sports captains are present at all house events and competitions, and support the Head of House. These Captains are required to support compiling team sheets and to drum up interest for each competition. They welcome students into House assemblies, announce speakers to the rest of the student body and they are a presence and role model for all students in their House.
The House Competition starts in September and throughout the school year, students can earn points for their houses, with a running total on our leaderboard in the school hall. How they can achieve these points is varied; good behaviour, sports, music, a range of arts and an ever-growing range of competitions. From Bake Offs to Blake offs, Bunny Runs to Engineering competitions, there really is something for everybody! The finale to the House Competition is always our annual Sports Day. The winner of the House Cup is announced at our whole school awards ceremony – always a moment of excitement!
Belonging
Because each house includes students from every year group, it fosters a sense of community throughout the school. Students from every year group work side by side to achieve a goal – to win the House Cup!
Motivation
Our school house system increases a healthy competitive spirit among students. This can be felt through the cheers on Sports Day or seen by our Staff in the classroom, as students show increased participation in tasks and responsibilities.
Leadership
Within each house there are opportunities for students to become House Captains, Sports Captains or class representatives. These roles not only help with motivation, but they also help to give all school students a voice.
Participation
The House system fosters belonging and makes every student an integral part of the school and equally responsible to contribute. This inclusion and encouragement of participation will help students to try a variety of academic, athletic, artistic and extracurricular activities.
Personal skills
Our House System helps to nurture hidden talents in students and give them an opportunity to develop their personal skills. They learn about responsibility, teamwork, leadership skills and cooperation which are all important qualities to harness.
