Health and Social Care

Health and Social Care is offered at Key Stage 4 and provides students with the opportunity to explore one of the UK's largest and fastest-growing employment sectors. The course develops students' understanding of human growth and development, health and wellbeing, and the care and support services that help individuals throughout their lives.

Through the Pearson BTEC Tech Award in Health and Social Care, students learn about the physical, intellectual, emotional and social development of individuals, the impact of life events, and the importance of providing effective support through different stages of life. They investigate factors that influence health and wellbeing, explore barriers to accessing care, and develop an understanding of person-centred approaches used by health and social care professionals.

The subject encourages students to develop valuable transferable skills including communication, empathy, problem-solving, teamwork and critical thinking. By applying their knowledge to real-life scenarios, students gain a deeper understanding of the needs of individuals and communities whilst preparing for future study and employment.

Health and Social Care provides an excellent foundation for progression to Level 3 vocational qualifications, A Levels, apprenticeships and careers in areas such as nursing, social work, midwifery, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, childcare and other health-related professions.
