Project Trident gives all Year 10 students the opportunity to spend two weeks in a real workplace, gaining first-hand experience of working life and developing skills that will support them in their future education, training and employment.

It is important to recognise that Project Trident is not about finding the perfect job or deciding on a future career at the age of 14 or 15. While some students may be fortunate enough to secure a placement in an area they are already interested in, the real value of work experience comes from the experience itself.

During their placement, students will have the opportunity to develop important transferable skills such as communication, teamwork, independence, problem-solving, organisation, resilience and confidence. These skills are valuable in almost every workplace, regardless of the particular industry or job.

We also encourage students to approach Project Trident with an open mind and to be reflective about their experience. Understanding what they enjoy, what they find challenging, the type of environment they work well in and how they interact with colleagues can be just as valuable as learning about a particular career. Even discovering that a certain type of work is not right for them is a useful outcome.

Ultimately, Project Trident is about helping students take an important first step into the world of work, giving them a better understanding of where their strengths lie, what they value and where they might fit within the workplace in the future.
